CHN Links: New Year's Eve Edition

Good morning, Toon Army. I disagree with a fellow blogger twice after the jump. Still respect you, Ed...

The first thing my wife, a medical professional, would notice about this picture is Robbie Keane's external jugular. I can't help but think of how nice he would look in black and white stripes.

Robbie Keane reportedly wants Newcastle to rescue him from Tottenham Hotspur, where he has appeared just 6 times. Looks like the shoe's on the other foot, as Lt. Aldo Raine would say. (Lee Ryder, The Chronicle) West Ham United is deep into negotiations with Spurs already, but as we know, nothing is final until it is final. (Harry Harris, ESPN Soccernet) Ed Harrison of nufcblog.com wonders if Keane would be a good signing. He ultimately leaves the decision up to the reader, but implies that Keane is on the decline because of his goal total, which is a dubious stat even when used in the right context (it isn't here). Also, he talked to a Spurs fan, so case closed. Here's the deal: On the decline or not, Robbie Keane is still a scoring threat (certainly more of one than any other striker on our roster) and defenses have to treat him that way, which leaves more room for Andy Carroll to do his work. Any production Keane might also provide would be a bonus. I don't want to break the bank or anything, but it's way too premature to categorically say that Keane wouldn't be a fit. For the right price, he could certainly be a useful piece.

Alan Pardew wants to add "one or two" players in the January transfer window. (Mark Douglas, The Journal)

In their quest to add a winger, Newcastle have reportedly taken a look at Leeds United player Max Gradel. (CaughtOffside) In response to the rumors, Leeds have told the Magpies to back off. (MirrorFootball)

Alan Pardew says there is room for the club to focus on playing well in the FA Cup as well as the Premiership. (Lee Ryder, The Chronicle) Ed Harrison of nufcblog.com isn't exactly pleased with the idea. I grow weary of people who believe this is an either/or proposition.

Some looks back at 2010:
The Chronicle looks at the best goals of the year.

Marc Duffy of ESPN Soccernet gives a month-by-month breakdown and hands out some awards.

Simon Bird of MirrorFootball gives his thoughts on the year and makes a prediction for 2011.
