CHN Links: Monday Edition

Good morning, Toon Army. Sorry for the hiccup yesterday. Everything is fine in the family.

I want curly hair too!

Match Reports & Reviews:
CaughtOffside has the video highlights.
Sky Sports - Some good statistics as always. Questions about relegation implications following "a spirited comeback."
The Guardian - Individual player ratings and, of course, chalkboards. "It felt like a lucky escape for the home side."
The Northern Echo - A rather pessimistic view of the match; the writer wonders aloud if Newcastle will avoid relegation. "Newcastle were poor."
Simon Bird, MirrorFootball - Questions the quality of the club. "Wigan...outplay[ed] Newcastle as if they were wearing the blue of Chelsea...the late equaliser only papered over the cracks."
toonsy, nufcblog.org - He focuses his ire on the wrong defender, in my opinion, and he continues his steadfast refusal to credit Shola with doing anything positive, but toonsy's reviews are always worth a look.

News:
First, let's get two rumors from yesterday out of the way that I don't believe have a shred of truth: (1)Twitter started going nuts with the "news" that Kevin Nolan had to sit out on Saturday because he got into a fight with Andy Carroll. No source of any substance was ever produced that I can tell. (2)Chris Hughton would have been sacked if Coloccini hadn't saved the day against Wigan. Here is the inciting article for you to read and decide for yourself. (Colin Young, The Mail) You'll notice three things: (1)There is no supporting quote. (2)Nobody else is reporting this, especially not local beat writers. (3)This is a complete hypothetical. These are extremely easy to make up, and besides, what does it matter? The Magpies didn't lose, so Chris Hughton wasn't fired. End of story.

Andy Carroll thinks he and Shola Ameobi make a formidable attacking pair. (Lee Ryder, The Chronicle)

Wigan manager Roberto Martinez says that the boos that Charles N'Zogbia heard on Saturday motivated him to perform well. (Simon Bird, MirrorFootball)

Fabricio Coloccini says he would gladly trade his goal for three points. (Sky Sports)

Hatem ben Arfa may be back earlier than March, after all. (Mark Douglas, Sunday Sun)

Kazenga LuaLua scored again for Brighton, and they are now talking about extending his loan. (Sky Sports)

Crystal Palace has registered their interest in Leon Best. (The People)
