CHN Links: Wednesday Edition

Good morning, Toon Army. If this were a normal week we could move on from De Jong talk and go on to the next opponent. Alas, it is not, so we will not.

Apropos of nothing; I just thought it was cool looking.

Yesterday we told you that the FA will not take action against Nigel De Jong because of some technicality in the rules. What we did not know at the time was that Newcastle had written a strongly worded letter demanding a suspension. I've read several articles about this and I'm still a little fuzzy on the exact chronology here, but I think these two articles summarize the chain of events best. (Simon Bird and David McDonnell, The Mirror and Daniel Taylor, The Guardian)

Meanwhile, Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini has publicly supported De Jong. (Sky Sports) Players from other teams are now chiming in to denounce the tackle and call for tougher officiating. (The Guardian) Darren Lewis of The Mirror summarizes several recent questionable tackles and calls for action from the referees. Chris McQuade of EPL Talk doesn't like it when dirty players are excused for their actions.

Hatem ben Arfa will stay in Newcastle to be treated by United's medical staff. Usually, injured players on loan will go back to their original clubs to receive treatment, but don't read too much into this. HBA is saying all the right things, and that's enough for me at the moment. (Scott Wilson, The Northern Echo)

Sunday's match with Manchester City got the Zonal Marking treatment, which is always worth the read.

Chris Hughton says that Andy Carroll's spot in the Starting XI is not guaranteed. (ESPN Soccernet) Kevin Nolan thinks Andy Carroll will one day be an England regular. (Lee Ryder, The Chronicle) I sure hope none of this beats Andy up mentally. Don't forget that he is due to appear in court later this month. These sorts of things can weigh on a young player's mind, and with ben Arfa out it is even more important that Carroll live up to his jersey number.

Danny Simpson and Danny Guthrie are ready to play should they be needed. (Lee Ryder, The Chronicle)

Three of Newcastle's fixtures were changed to accommodate the television networks. (BPL Official Site)

We leave you today with a bit of fun. Click here and thank us later.
